Welcome to the Surf City Challenge. The first “Full-Length” pre-season tournament on the west coast. The only true way to find out if you are ready for season, Is to play full-length matches to determine your fitness, and your ability to make good decisions near the end of the match.
All FIFA rules apply to the games. There are no tie -breakers, there is no point system. Play to win, play to experiment, or play for fitness. And when you are done, you will know if you are ready for the upcoming season!
Game Procedures
• Player I.D. cards must be given to referees for field safety check.
• All teams must have a licensed coach and carded administrator at every game.
• All teams shall consist of at least seven (7) players. (6 players for U8 - U10)
• Teams must be on opposite sides of the playing field.
• Home team has choice on which side of the field they want.
• In the event of a color conflict, home team must change jerseys.
• Home team will supply 3 game balls unless it’s provided by the tournament.
• Referees have been instructed to start all games on time. No injury time will be added.
Match Rules
All games shall be played by, FIFA Rules as modified by USYSA, CYSA-S, and Gold Coast Xtreme. The Tournament Director will resolve any situations/issues not explicitly covered by the rules. The Tournament Director will make final decisions relating to the interpretation of the Tournament rules. However, the Tournament Director may delegate authority to the Venue Director if the Tournament Director is not present at the game. Duration of Games & Overtimes, by Halves, and Ball Size are as follows:

B/G U9/U10 Play 25 minute halves, Size 4
GU11 Play 30 minute halves Size 4
GU12 Play 30 minute halves Size 4
BU13 Play 35 minute halves, Size 5
GU14/15 Play 40 minute halves, Size 5
GU16/U17 Play 45 minute halves, Size 5
GU17 Play 45 minute halves, Size 5
GU19 Play 45 minute halves, Size 5
Each half time will be 5 minutes.
Unlimited loan players, you decide how many you need.
Substitutions: Any dead ball, and you can substitute a player who receives a yellow card.
Special needs: Regarding Orthopedic braces and casts, eligibility for the match is at the discretion of the referee.
Referee decisions are final. Single referee for U9/U10 matches. All others will have 3 man systems.
Red cards will be reported to Cal South or AYSO, and the player receiving a red card sits the next two matches.
Check in: Will be at your field 1 hour prior to your first game. Teams from outside Cal South will need travel papers. US Club Soccer cards are welcome. AYSO teams will need Signed Roster by Commisioner. You will need laminated player id cards for the 2011/2012 season, and medical release forms.
Sidelines and kick off: Home team has choice for both. Visiting team has choice of the half they wish to defend first.
Uniforms: You must have a home and an away kit. Home team must change jersey if there is a conflict.
NO REFUND POLICY – Gold Coast Soccer Club guarantees entry to every applicant entered by the deadline date; however, there will be no refunds upon receipt. This policy is enforced because there are those few teams that withdraw without just cause before, during and after the schedules we post. The 1% of applicants withdrawing, this way, cause the responsible 99% scheduled tremendous grief due to multiple schedule changes.
The Tournament Director reserves the right to amend brackets in the event a team pulls out at the last minute or is a no show. Director will insure the remaining teams are provided with the best possible tournament competition play for the good of the game.
In the event of cancellation because of weather, Gold Coast Soccer Club will refund all monies less $100 per team for administration costs.
Please be respectful: Do to length of the matches, we ask that you please clear your sidelines immediately following your match. Please do not taunt or harass your opponent, inappropriate sideline behavior could result in the coach being ejected. Cheer and have a great time. You are two weeks from the start of the season. And…your kids are playing the greatest game on earth.
